During my long artistic life, I have worked in many countries of the world over the years.

A special place is held by my Russian period, where I had a wonderful workshop in the centre of Moscow. It was a great pleasure to have worked in Moscow in the 70’s and 80’s. That period was the Golden Age of the Russian performing school.

Then I moved to Spain where I’ve been living for almost 20 years now. In Madrid you have a wonderful weather and the sun shines almost all over the year. This helps me a lot in making my instruments. I’ve got almost perfect conditions here. A large workshop where I create new instruments and do restorations. I also have a garden where the wood from which I make new instruments is "sunbathing".

My workshop is located about 50 kilometers from Madrid in a quiet area, which helps me to concentrate entirely on my work. Now I’m in a completely different creative phase compared to that one when I used to work in Moscow.

At this stage, it’s the privacy that’s most important to me, because when I work here I can devote a lot of time to my new instruments.

The Spanish sun, too, plays a vital role in the process of varnishing new instruments. I have devoted many years of my life to the study of this question; I have read and studied a huge number of books and old manuscripts. I make varnishes for my instruments always on my own and according to my own formula.

Durante mi larga vida artística, he trabajado durante años en distintos países del mundo. Un lugar especial lo ocupan mis años en Rusia, donde tuve un maravilloso taller en el centro de Moscú. Fue un verdadero placer haber trabajado en Moscú durante los años los 70 y 80, las décadas de oro de la escuela de interpretación rusa.

Entonces me mudé a España donde llevo viviendo casi 20 años ya. En Madrid hace muy buen tiempo y el sol brilla durante la mayor parte del año. Esto me ayuda mucho para construir mis instrumentos. También tengo un jardín donde pongo a «tomar el sol» la madera que utilizo para construir los nuevos instrumentos.

Mi taller esta a unos 50 kilómetros de Madrid, en una zona tranquila que me sirve para concentrarme por completo en mi trabajo. Ahora estoy en una fase creativa totalmente distinta a la de mis años en Moscú. En estos momentos, lo más importante para mí es la privacidad, porque cuando trabajo aquí, puedo dedicar mucho tiempo a mis nuevos instrumentos.

El sol español, también desempeña un papel vital en el proceso de barnizado de los instrumentos. He dedicado muchísimos años de mi vida al estudio de esta cuestión. He leído y estudiado un gran número de libros y antiguos manuscritos. Los barnices para mis instrumentos los hago yo mismo según mi propia fórmula.

Еще у меня есть сад, где загорает дерево, из которого я делаю новые инструменты. Моя мастерская расположена примерно в 50 километрах от Мадрида в тихом районе, что помогает мне полностью сосредоточиться на работе. Сейчас я нахожусь в совершенно другой творческой фазе по сравнению с тем, когда я работал в Москве. На этом этапе важнее всего это уединение, потому что работая здесь, я могу уделять много времени своим новым инструментам.

Испанское солнце также играет очень важную роль в процессе лакирования новых инструментов. Я посвятил много лет своей жизни изучению этого вопроса - прочитал и изучил об этом огромное количество книг и старинных манускриптов. Я делаю лаки для своих инструментов всегда самостоятельно и по собственной рецептуре.
